There are several levels of Car Insurance available in Thailand, the best way is to protect yourself is to purchase as much as you can afford, below we describe each level.

  • CTPL (Compulsory Third Party Liability)
  • First Class
  • Second Class
  • Third Class

CTPL(Compulsory Third Party Liability) as the name says is compulsory and proof of a current policy is required when renewing road tax, if you have opted to purchase private insurance from one of the other levels then it is best to also purchase the CTPL at the same time and from the same Insurance company, as a full broker we are able to supply insurance from any of the licensed insurance companies in Thailand, giving you the widest choice and best price. The reason for purchasing both through the same company is that if there is an accident then there is no question of which company should be responsible for the claim.

First Class (Comprehensive) insurance covers all vehicles involved in any claim, not just the other party, it provides cover to have your car repaired in the event of an accident, it will cover up to the policy limits if your vehicle is stolen or catches fire.

Second Class (Third Party fire and theft) insurance covers only third party damage in the event of an accident, ie the not your vehicle, it does cover your vehicle in the event of theft or a fire.

Third Class (Third Party only) insurance only covers the other vehicles in the event of an accident, there is no cover for fire or theft, this policy is also the only policy available for some vehicles once they reach a certain age, usually 15 years, some companies will provide second class for older vehicles but it is best to obtain a quote from us to see what is available if your vehicle is older.
